Why Photinia is so popular
Photinia × fraseri ‘Red Robin’ is evergreen, so it gives structure all year, and its new shoots are a bright red that slowly turns to glossy green. It tolerates pruning very well, which makes it suitable for formal shapes as well as natural hedges.
Available forms
High-stem standards with a clear straight trunk and a round red crown; short-stem standards for terraces and smaller gardens; pyramids for rows and screens; and bushes for hedging. All are field-grown and supplied with rootball.
How landscapers use it
High-stem Photinia lines avenues and car parks, giving a red accent at eye level. Short-stem standards and pyramids frame entrances and terraces, while bushes make dense, colourful hedges that change through the seasons.
Care tips
Photinia prefers sun or light shade and well-drained soil. Trimming after each flush of growth encourages a new wave of red shoots and keeps standards and pyramids in shape.
